Portal languages are the languages into which the customer can switch your portal. If the customer’s language setting is in a language that your portal does not support, the portal will open in the primary language.

On the Portals page, in the details of the selected portal and in the languages tab, you can double-click the primary language (English screenshot on the screenshot) and you can activate/deactivate other languages.

In the textbox after the language, the abbreviation used is used to create subdomains for links to your portal in that language. Links that are already published will no longer work when you change them.
